Point of view of CIPRA
Point of View: What if reaching an agreement isn’t the most important thing?
In the increasingly contested Alpine region, harmonious coexistence does not depend on eliminating conflicts. Rather, we must learn to recognise differing opinions, highlight areas of tension and use dialogue as the basis for a shared future, argues Lauren Mosdale, co-director of CIPRA France.
Point of view: The good traveller leaves no traces
Traffic jams, noise, exhaust fumes: this problem affects not only densely populated urban centres but, owing to the still overwhelmingly dominant share of motorised transport, also the Alpine regions. Yet we have long known that there is another way, says Stephan Tischler, transport scientist at the University of Innsbruck and Chair of CIPRA Austria.
Point of view: Winter Games need to face reality
Major events promise modernity, revitalisation and global visibility. In the Alps, however, these promises are now being made in territories marked by the climate crisis, depopulation and, at the same time, growing tourist pressure. Looking closely at Milan-Cortina 2026, what emerges is not only a celebration of sport, but one of the largest public and infrastructure investment programmes ever concentrated in the Alpine area – with effects that are set to continue well beyond the time of the competitions, says Vanda Bonardo, president of CIPRA Italy.
