It’s well researched, entertaining and colourful: "Alps insight", the feature magazine addresses current issues relating to the Alps from a wide variety of viewpoints. Background information from the experts is accompanied by concrete examples, whether on the building of second homes, global warming, biodiversity, energy-efficient construction methods, innovations and much, much more. Right across the Alps. It is published at irregular intervals in German, French, Italian and Slovene, and is sent out by post.

AlpTick is our idea of one ticket for all public transport in the whole Alpine region. The work of the CIPRA Youth Council (CYC) has finally borne fruit. This year, travellers to Switzerland will be the first to experience our mini AlpTick creation: Sustainable travel is one step closer to the goal of a unified Alpine ticket for trains and buses with the Graubündenplus ticket.

Position,
hydropower position,
hydropower
How much hydropower use is environmentally compatible and ecologically sustainable? This question has been on the minds of people in the Alpine region for decades - all the more so against the backdrop of the urgent need to move away from fossil fuels. There are currently around 21,000 hydropower plants in operation in Europe, 300 under construction and over 8,500 in the planning stage. In many places, climate change with its imponderables such as extreme floods is being countered with more dams and walls, although river widening, for example, would make more ecological sense.

With sadness we communicate that on 10 November 2021 the German commons activist Silke Helfrich has died in a tragic mountain accident in Liechtenstein. The 54-years old acclaimed author, sociologist and pedagogue had been in Schaan (LI) to contribute with her outstanding expertise on fair and just economies to the development of CIPRA International.

The European Parliament has shown no understanding. Even the last rescue attempts by three parliamentarians were shot down. The new toll regulation for road haulage on European motorways will lead to the one-sided promotion of hydrogen and electric engines. This will lead to a massive disadvantage for freight transport by rail and to even more trucks.

The ecological transition is already happening in the Alps – and we are in the middle of it. The AlpWeek 2022 from 5 to 7 September 2022 in Brig-Glis/CH will bring together citizens and decision-makers to discuss the many aspects of transformation in the Alps. CIPRA is co-organiser of the international event.
