Youth workshop on biodiversity
What is the Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services (IPBES) all about? Alexandra Senn can tell us more about it. She is a member of the CIPRA Youth Council and participated in an international workshop on the latest IPBES report.
I recently had the opportunity to participate in the IPBES (Intergovernmental Science-Policy Platform on Biodiversity and Ecosystem Services) Seminar on Transformative Change, held at the International Academy for Nature Conservation on the island of Vilm/D from April 20–24, 2026. Together with 24 other young people interested in biodiversity from the countries Germany, Austria, Belgium and Luxembourg, we spent four interesting workshop days.
During the workshop, I gained deeper insight into the work and structure of the global science-policy platform for biodiversity, IPBES. It brings together scientists and experts to assess key environmental challenges, combining recent research with indigenous and local knowledge. A key focus of the seminar was the IPBES Assessment on Transformative Change, which provides important guidance for policymakers on how to enable systemic change for biodiversity.
What made this experience particularly valuable was all the interesting discussions with the other participants, with voices from academia and activism. I am very grateful for this opportunity and for the many insightful conversations and connections made throughout the workshop.
