The results of the CIRCLE MOUNTAIN Call are now available. The financing of four translational projects has been approved. The projects are to run for a period of two years and have a volume of approximatively EUR 300'000 each. The four funded projects are ARNICA, EURAS-CLIMPACT, ChangingRISKS and CAMELEON.
They deal with the impact of climate change (natural and anthropogenic factors) and response options in mountain regions, taking account of water resources, infrastructure, slope stability, agriculture, tourism, public health, and biodiversity. The launch date is scheduled for autumn 2010.
The CIRCLE-2 ERA Net network project was also launched at a kick-off meeting in Dublin/IRL in mid-June; it too looks at the impact of climate change. Objectives include the co-ordination and consolidation of European transnational subsidies in this area of research, promoting policy-relevant research findings for adaptation initiatives and strategies, and strengthening co-operation and the exchange of examples of good practice. The project is to run from May 2010 to May 2014.
