Il problema della montagna
The book is divided into five chapters, which deal with the problem of depopulation and its connection with economy, the demographic evolution of the italian mountain regions from the end of the Second World War until nowadays, the diversity existing among the italian mountain regions from the North to the South and the new forms of public policy, which are occurring in these areas. The most innovative concept of the book is that the Author does not consider mountain regions as territories that are isolated from the national and local contexts, but as strictly dependent on them. This can explain the economic and demographic diversity of the Italian mountain regions: the presence of industry can determine it. Another very significant theory contained in the book regards the Italian mountain policies and the causes of their failure: in the Author’s opinion, Italian mountain policies have failed since they have always considered mountain regions as isolated spaces, as close economies not related with the outside world.
