As its core element, the decree foresees the elaboration of national guidance on the French ecological network. All planning documents and national projects such as the major linear infrastructures must be compatible with this guideline. Implementation is mainly the task of the regions, which have to work out regional ecological networks including maps and action plans as their main elements. The regional ecological networks have to be taken into account by all spatial planning tools.
The Rhône-Alpes region has already published a draft version of its ecological network, which is now being discussed with all concerned stakeholders. The Provence-Alpes-Côte-d'Azur Region also intends to publish a first draft soon. The "Corridors of Life" project has taken implementation a step further by setting up 24 infrastructures to help animals cross roads in the Grésivaudan valley in the Rhône-Alpes region.
