New publications for networking natural environments in the Alps

Jul 27, 2010 / alpMedia
A great deal has been done and achieved in recent years to set up a pan-alpine ecological network. As part of its script series the German Federal Agency for Nature Conservation (BfN) has just published a report in English entitled Implementing a Pan-Alpine Ecological Network - A Compilation of Major Approaches, Tools and Activities. It comprises for the first time various documents, publications and reports supporting the implementation of an ecological network across the alpine arc. One chapter focuses on activities in the Carpathians. The publication can provide useful information to regions beyond the Alps, too.
The BfN script was compiled by the Ecological Continuum Initiative on behalf of the German Federal Agency for Nature Conservation with financial support from the German Ministry of the Environment and the MAVA Foundation.

To support the on-site networking of natural environments and promote activities, the Ecological Continuum Initiative also recently published a series of eleven info sheets in German, French and Italian. They cover the most important areas in which improvement in ecological networking is needed: agriculture and forestry, water management, hunting, spatial planning, transport, nature conservation, fishing and tourism, and are also aimed at municipalities and their citizens.
