One of the side events will focus on ecological networks in the Alpine region. Various initiatives are underway in the Alps and in the Carpathians to set up a network of biologically significant regions as a contribution to preserving biological diversity. To underline the importance of these initiatives, representatives of the Alpine Convention, the Carpathian Convention and the Convention on Biological Diversity will sign a co-operation agreement as part of the side event. The side event is being held from 13:15 to 14:45 at the Federal Ministry for the Environment in Bonn on 29 May 2008.
