Alpine Partnership for Local Climate Action (ALPACA)

Jan 18, 2018
Rising temperatures, rockfalls, lack of snow: global warming is clearly noticeable in the Alpine region. The «Alpine Partnership for Local Climate Action» has the intention to bring together cities, municipalities and networks in order to work together for more climate protection. With this initiative, CIPRA International, «Alliance in the Alps» and «Alpine Town of the Year» want to strengthen the transregional exchange of knowledge and experience. The goal of positioning the Alps as a model region for climate protection is also in line with the Alpine Convention.

At the Climate Change Conference (COP21) in Paris/F 2015, cities and municipalities from the Alpine region jointly called for a binding climate agreement. On the opening day of the 2017 World Climate Change Conference in Bonn/D, the participants presented the idea of a climate partnership to the public. The Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Building and Nuclear Safety (BMUB) supports the establishment of the climate partnership of Alpine municipalities within the framework of the European Climate Initiative.
