The three-year project "Amigo - Integrating Active Personal Mobility in Health Programmes of Organisations" is developing measures for active commuter mobility. These measures will be tested and analysed in the form of experiments in the participating pilot enterprises in the Alpenrhein-Bodensee-Hochrhein region. The project team will use the results of these experiments to derive political and systemic recommendations at institutional level on how to successfully switch to healthy and sustainable means of transport.

Challenge: healthy ways to get to work

Programmes for occupational health management are part of the standard offer in many companies. In addition to company pension schemes, this also includes sports facilities such as a company gym, etc. Existing health programmes hardly take into account the promotion of active mobility on the way to work. At the same time, road connections in the region reach their capacity limits during peak commuting times. On the one hand, this impairs accessibility for passenger and freight traffic: on the other, it also worsens the quality of life through traffic noise and pollutant emissions. Analyses show that around 70 percent of employees live within 15 kilometres of their workplace – but only a maximum of 10 percent of commuters walk or cycle/e-bike.

Motivating people to switch by experimenting

Together with committed pilot companies, experiments are being developed and tested for their effectiveness in practice. In this way, it is possible to motivate commuters to change to walking, cycling, bus and rail travel and car-pooling, including for fitness reasons. The Advisory Board, which consists of experts from health research, mobility management and behavioural economics, offers scientific support in this area. At least 12 pilot enterprises are developing solutions to link mobility and health management with the support of the project partners and the Advisory Board. In addition, the project partners will analyse the areas of company mobility management (BMM) and company health promotion (BGM), including at institutional level, and make political and systemic recommendations for improvement.

Goals

  • Improved institutional cooperation in the project area
  • Improving the health of workers and the population
  • Region and companies to become more attractive for skilled workers
  • Modal shift of commuter routes towards climate-friendly mobility
  • Improvement of the quality of life through reduced air and noise emissions
  • Relieving the burden on transport infrastructures
