Sustainable Alpine Tourism

Jun 27, 2018
[Project completed] Sustainable tourism in the Alps is the only long-term alternative to conventional mass tourism in order to safeguard the habitat for nature and people. So far, however, there is a lack of jointly defined framework conditions on anational or alpine level for planning, promoting and implementing sustainable tourism.

To initiate change, it takes clarity: who is involved, who supports, who decides? The aim of the project "Sustainable Alpine Tourism - Which Framework it Really Needs" was to present the various actors at all levels and across the Alps in a systemic picture. The visibility made it possible to make initial assessments of the need for optimization.

One result is, for example, that a coordination office for regional food, which brings producers together with tourism professionals and promotes the marketing of the products, would be helpful. Hoteliers and guests should also be made more aware of sustainable mobility.

The project was financed by the German Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety.
