Wild cat back in Austrian forests

Dec 20, 2010
After more than fifty years, the wild cat returned to Austrian forests. To contribute to protection and a better acceptance of this shy animal among people, the Platform on Wildcats was founded in 2009.
On its website the Platform informs about the current state of research and activities on wild cats. Furthermore, it reports on observances of the cats and presents a map on optimal living spaces in Austria which is an important basis for the protection of the wild cat in this country.
In 2010 an Austrian-wide project in the frame of the EU Life Programme started which encourages connectivity of forests to contribute to the wild cat protection and to promote communication. For more information see: www.wildkatze-in-oesterreich.at
