In autumn 2013 the first wolf cubs in a long time were born there after their predecessors had been exterminated by the Swiss some 150 years before. Today the young wolves hunt in a pack near Chur, in the Calanda mountain range. That is however also a hunting ground for homo sapiens. One of the young wolves was recently injured by a grazing shot, with the animal dying one or two weeks later. But this was not yet wild enough for the Swiss Alps and, as in the Wild West, there is now a bounty available for information leading to the arrest of the poacher. An environmental organisation and private individuals have offered 10,000 Swiss francs to this end. Happy hunting!
