One Alpine ticket that makes travelling in the Alps easier, more sustainable and more attractive for young people during their holidays: the CIPRA Youth Council (CYC) has developed the Alptick project based on its members’ experiences travelling in public transportation in the Alps. The comprehensive tickets that do exist do not include all the different means of public transport, which makes travelling, especially in the more remote places characteristic of the Alps, complicated and expensive.

Cléa Slimani, CYC member from France, explains: “The idea of AlpTick arose from the need to make travelling habits within the Alps more sustainable. Only in this way we can tackle global challenges such as the climate crisis.” For the 23-year-old, travelling is a way to get to know and understand our natural and cultural environment. CYC member Frederick Manck from Germany agrees: “Sustainable travel is crucial for the future of responsible tourism in the Alps”.

With the AlpTick idea, the CYC won the 2018 “Pitch your Project” contest of the European strategy for the Alpine Region (Eusalp). This year the youth council will conduct a survey among young Alpine residents aged between 15-29 years to collect their opinion about the current mobility situation. Another forthcoming aim is to bring decision-makers from the mobility sector together around one table.
