Bolzano sent the proposal for FP7-Smartcities-2013

The participation to the FP7 call for proposals might represent an opportunity to further enhance the activities of Bolzano towards carbon neutrality.

The Seventh Framework Programme (FP7) is the most important and prestigious European research and development funding scheme. The city of Bolzano supported by Eurac and together with 18 international partners has submitted a jointed project proposal to access the funds.
Bolzano’s commitment to the initiative is very high: the energetic retrofit of about 36.000 m2 of residential social-housing buildings, the extension of the District Heating and Cooling (DHC) network, smart public lighting, car sharing and the creation of an hydrogen district are the actions Bolzano wants to put in place.
Since 2005, the city of Bolzano is tackling the transition from a traditional fossil fuel-based to a smart efficient and renewable sources-based energy system. From 2007 on, it has scheduled the development of its own energy action plan, in 2009 Bolzano was awarded as Alpine Town of the Year and in 2010, it joined the Covenant of Mayors. More recently, within the Alpstar project, Bolzano is implementing two pilot actions on nearly Zero Energy Building.
The success of the FP7 initiative might therefore represent an important contribute towards the achievement of the ambitious aims Bolzano has set.
