They include mountain films which contribute to our knowledge of mountains and their protection; films on outstanding adventures in alpinism; research films that broaden and promote our knowledge of habitats; and sports and adventure films on the many modern developments of alpine adventure sports. A condition is that the films submitted must have been made between 2005 and the beginning of 2007. The international jury awards three Golden and three Silver Gentians to the winners and runners-up.
Besides the wide-ranging programme of the Trento Film Festival itself the organisers are once again preparing the international Montagnalibri mountain book fair. It is the 21st fair of its kind and is being held in parallel with the Trento Film Festival in Trento before travelling on to other towns and cities in the Alpine countries.
