Is environmental law adapted to the challenges faced by mountain areas?

The Conference intends to draw the attention on the legal dimension of environmental protection and sustainable development in mountains, trying to answer the following query:
are European and domestic law adequate when dealing with the environ-ment in mountain areas?
TO THIS END, THE SPEAKERS WILL:
- present the state of affairs as regards the development of environmental law in relation to European mountain ranges (Alps, Carpathians, Pyrenees, Balkans) and the main legal instruments to protect the mountain ecosystems.
- discuss critical issues in environmental protection in mountain areas
- present different geographical realities and exchange experiences, to find eventually common points and grounds, and contribute to raise awareness about legal issues regarding environmental protection in mountain areas.
