Networks and Initiatives
CIPRA works with an international network of organizations, institutions and individuals, whose objective is to harmonize ecological balance, economic stability and social progress in the mountain regions worldwide. CIPRA Network

The network of municipalities "Alliance in the Alps", of which CIPRA is one of the founders, is a living example of the possibility of sustainable development and implementation of the Alpine Convention in the towns. In the meantime, over 316 towns in the Alpine area, from France to Slovenia, are members of the town network. The exchange of knowledge and good examples between the towns and valley communities from the Alpine Arch is impressive and ensures the dissemination of good ideas. More |

The association "Alpine town of the year" is the coming together of the Alpine towns that have been awarded the title of "Alpine town of the year". This title is a distinctive sign for particular commitment towards the implementation of the Alpine Convention. Since 1997 it is awarded by an international Jury, of which CIPRA is a member. More |

Together with nine partners from all the alpine countries CIPRA has established an alpine-wide network of small and medium-sized businesses as part of the NENA Project in order to promote sustainability-oriented enterprises. The idea of an alpine-wide network of enterprises came about as part of CIPRA's Future in the Alps project. More |

The Alliance of Central Asian Mountain Communities (AGOCA) was founded in 2003 taking the model of the "Alliance in the Alps" the network of municipalities in Alpine states. Like its sister organisation in the Alps, this Central Asian community network is active in the field of sustainable development in mountain communities and knowledge-sharing at the community level. With a programme of mutual visits, excursions and information-sharing, the organisation has become a platform for good practice and successful projects. More |

The Network of Alpine protected areas (ALPARC) unites more than 800 large protected areas in the Alps in order to promote the exchange of knowledge, experiences and methods among these protected areas. CIPRA works with ALPARC for implementing the Alpine Convention in actions and projects, as well as at the exchange of expertise and knowledge. More |

The objective of ISCAR is the promotion of the Alpine and scientific collaboration in Alpine research, as well as the transfer of research results in practice. In this, ISCAR particularly covers research interests of the Alpine Convention. ISCAR advices the bodies of the Alpine Convention. More The ISCAR-Working Group "Protected Area Research" (ISCAR-P) makes up the editorial board of eco.mont, a journal on Protected Mountain Areas Research. More |

Club Arc Alpin includes the Alpine associations from Germany, France, Italy, Liechtenstein, Austria, Switzerland, Slovenia and South Tyrol. The CAA is the counterpart regarding matters of landscape connected to sports in the mountains. More

The Alpine Convention is an international treaty for the promotion of sustainable development in the Alps. CIPRA has given a fundamental contribution to the establishment of the Alpine Convention. It has official observer status, takes part in the sessions of the permanent committee of the Alpine Conference and in the Alpine conferences and is engaged in various working groups of the Alpine Convention. With its "Alpine Programme" the WWF intends to maintain the biological variety in the Alpine area. One of the Alpine Programme’s actions was to create a basic map of the "Major areas for biodiversity in the Alps“. WWF, ALPARC, CIPRA and ISCAR together have determined those areas that deserve protection because of their outstanding biological variety. In July 2007 the four partners have started a project for the creation of an ecological network in the Alps, in order to support the association of these areas and contribute to the saveguard of biodiversity.
