Renewal of town-and-country ties in the Alpine space (Renouer le lien ville/campagne dans les Alpes)
Establishing agreements at the local level between consumers and farmers in periurban areas in the submontane zone for the supply of fresh produce (vegetables) on the basis of solidarity. The agreements are made in the framework of the AMAP Association for the Preservation of Farm-based Agriculture (Association pour le maintien d’une agriculture paysanne). Consumers pay part of their order in advance so as to ensure a reliable income for the farmers. In return the farmers regularly supply their customers with fresh produce on the basis of a jointly agreed list.
Project executive Alliance of Farmers, Ecologists and Consumers of Isère (Alliance Paysans Ecologistes Consommateurs de l'Isère). This group of associations is committed to the promotion of sustainable, economically viable and environmentally friendly agriculture.
Participants Actors of a social economy based on solidarity in the greater Grenoble area (AlpesolidaireS), regional parliament (Conseil Régional) of Rhône-Alpes, Association of Ecological Farmers (Alliance Paysans Ecologistes), consumers in Rhône-Alpes, neighbourhood associations in Grenoble, Association of Organic Farms in the Departments of Ain, Isère, Savoie and Haute-Savoie (Association de Producteurs pour le Développement de l'Agriculture Biologique dans l'Ain, l'Isère, la Savoie et la Haute-Savoie).
Objectives Renewal of ties between town and country in the Alpine space by bringing farmers and consumers together in the framework AMAP, creation of strong social links between producers and consumers, reduction of energy and environmental costs in the field of agriculture through shorter delivery routes, creation of an economically sustainable alternative for producers for a guaranteed income, employment and social contacts. Development of AMAP on the basis of vegetable produce, and subsequent search for solutions for meat producers in the surrounding mountain regions (Chartreuse, Oisans, Belledonne).
Activities Contacts between local producers and consumers (mainly from the urban area) permitting the latter to rediscover the connection between good quality food and sustainable management of the rural space (organic or quasi-organic farming), creation of social and economic ties between producers and consumers, with weekly delivery of a basket of produce to an agreed location, farm visits, conferences and discussions.
Results Promotion of the establishment or continued operation of regional farms, promotion of regional organic farming, greater consumer awareness for agriculture through the food they eat, concrete contribution to sustainable agriculture in mountain areas.
