The motto for the Award is "Mountains on the Internet". The contents of the award-winning web sites differ in many ways: information on mountains and their resources, information on projects for sustainable development, presentation of local projects for the sustainable development of mountain regions, and school education programmes. The Award was offered in the categories Web Sites with a Commercial Objective and Web Sites with a Non-commercial Objective.
The award-winning web sites were put forward by Internet users. After a preliminary selection a jury of specialists in communication, marketing, design, art and technology nominated the winners.
