Traffic Calming in the Julian AlpsThis project is intended to be a continuation of the project "Traffic Calming in Alpine Valleys" with certain activities to be carried out in the Vrata valley, transfer of know-how to the Bohinj area and the Vršic pass as well as the drawing-up of mechanisms / a study to effect traffic calming and reduction of pressure of mobile visitors to the national park (TNP), in accordance with the Transport Protocol of the Alpine Convention. All the areas concerned lie in the park and represent the areas most heavily burdened by individual motor traffic, thus needing a carefully planned traffic regime. Aims:To prepare a sample model for the calming of motor traffic (particularly individual traffic) in the protected area (through concrete examples also for the broader area of the Triglav National Park); to inform and raise awareness of the public on the use of public transport to the Julian Alps; to prepare steps for the introduction of public transport to the Vrata Valley; to prepare steps for traffic regimes in the Bohinj area and the Vršic pass; to increase the number of visitors going to the Vrata valley and other areas on foot, by bike or public transport; to educate and include the local population in traffic calming activities; cooperation and transfer of know-how among the municipalities integrated in the network of Alpine municipalities; to reduce negative effects of traffic in the protected area of the Julian Alps; to implement the Transport Protocol of the Alpine ConventionRealization:Workshops with professional institutions, local population and tourism operators; studies of traffic calming and traffic regimes for individual areas (Bohinj, Pokljuka, Vršic and Vrata) in the TNP and a concept for the entire area; drawing-up of a business plan for the implementation of traffic calming based on the study, including an overview of costs and revenues and financing possibilities; preparation of municipal ordinances on traffic regime and its implementation where necessary; information and awareness-raising of the local population and visitors, a leaflet on the traffic regime, promotion of visiting the park by public transport; preparation of a mobile exhibition of the project; planning and installation of signs and information boards; preparation of the documentation and purchase of the land for the car park in Mojstrana (in accordance with the guidelines from the dynalp1 project); creation of a local taxi service; planning and signposting a walking trail in Mojstrana.Involved:Triglav National Park, Bohinj Local Tourist Organisation (LTO), Dovje-Mojstrana Alpine Society, other target groups: land owners, residents of traffic regime areas, tourist and other associations, local communities, agrarian communities, foresters, hunters, Roads Directorate of the Republic of SloveniaProjectterm:May 2008 - first information and awareness-raising materials and web contents made; October 2008 - necessary field work done during the summer season; April 2009 - contents concludedProject costs:79200 EuroContact person:Občina Kranjska GoraVida Þerne Kolodvorska 1b 4280 Kranjska Gora SI Telefon: +386 4 580 98 12 Fax +386 4 580 98 24 E-mail: cerne@kranjska-gora.si Website http://www.kranjska-gora.si |
