Cross-border project focussing on revitalizing the tourism sector in conjuction with the farm produce and timber sector with the goal of promoting Alpine tourism during the low seasonsThe project is based on close co-operation between the three administrations and aims at defining tangible and innovative tourist offers for the low seasons (spring and autumn) to provide mountain resorts, which up to now have put their main focus on the winter season, with the support necessary to promote a more diversified form of tourism including vast territories and being able to direct the development of the tourist resorts towards clearly defined and readily indentifiable social and environmental sustainability. Aims:The aim of the project is to define a tourism product guaranteeing considerable added value (jobs) by including the local businesses of the three mountain municipalities in the border region. The project benefits from the fact that it combines public action and private initiatives (as well as voluteer work) and from the fact, which is innovative in this area, that it focuses on revitalizing the low seasons (spring and autumn) which have traditionally been considered as "dead" seasons in comparison to winter and summer tourism. The greatest challenge is to create a product whose strong point lies in revitalizing the entire tourism sector and the sectors most closely connected to tourism (farm produce and timber industry) which provide jobs to various local businesses. A detailed training, communications, promotion and marketing programme will focus on reinforcing the local identity, social cohesion across borders and the residentilal attractiveness of the tree municipalities.Realization:a) analysis of the projects submitted within the scope of the "Future in the Alps 2005" competition and considered as the ones that best comply with our goals;b) creation of a new tourism model taking into consideration the spring and autumn season with the aim of revitalizing the municipalities in those months in terms of social and economic development c) internal and external communication measures targeted at the whole area involved; d) training activities targeted at businesses, hoteliers and restaurant owners, nature and mountain guides, skiing instructors (two meetings); e) organisation of an open forum targeted at the local population; f) maintenance measures with regard to the longest Tibetan bridge worldwide (468 metres) on the Piccola Dora situated between the Municipality of Clavière and Cesana and along the MTB cycleway and footpath route often called the "Clavierissima" which is being developed on the municipal territories of Clavière, Cesana and Montgenèvre; g) various promotional activities; h) general co-ordination between the various activities. Involved:The project is presented in co-operation with the Municipalities of Cesana T.se and Montgenèvre (F), as well as Pro Loco and the 'Associazione Arnica di Cesana'. These Municipalities have recently completed the Interreg III project "Cross-border geological, environmental and sports itineraries at the Montgenèvre Pass".
