Natural and Cultural Heritage of Württemberg's Allgäu

A cadastral register is to be set up as part of the DYNALP project – an Interreg IIIB project of the network of municipalities – to record the elements that make up the natural and cultural landscape. The cadastral register will be entered in a digital information system and cross-linked with other surveys. With the results from the preparation of the cards, the knowledge of the high value of our diverse landscape should be reinforced. This enhancement is to promote regional identity and a sense of attachment to one's native land and also contribute towards developing sustainable tourism (e.g. by creating so-called "theme trails").

Aims:

* Raising the awareness of the value of the cultural landscape for future generations
* Showcasing the elements that make up the natural and cultural landscape
* Cultural landscapes as an economic factor in rural areas (Tourism, "soft site factor")
* communication of information beyond borders
* exchange with other regions

Realization:

The implementation occurs largely through the people in charge of monument protection organised in the AG Heimatpflege. Furthermore, heritage surveys are performed also by specialists. The first work contracts were already assigned in 2004.

Impact:

It is already clear that Württemberg's Allgäu boasts a wealth of elements that make up the cultural and natural landscape. Many of these elements had not yet been recorded and were often unknown. The new database will provide a complete overview of the diversity and sheer number of existing elements.
