The future of mountain areas concerns us all!

9 - 10 july 2009

International Conference hosted by the Federal Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Consumer Protection (BMELV)

The BMELV will, in cooperation with the Bavarian Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Forestry, hold an international conference on mountain farming in the Alpine region near Garmisch-Patenkirchen from 9 to 10 July 2009.

Faced with the conflicting demands of society's interest in preserving open spaces and conserving the countryside in mountain areas and the aspirations of alpine farm families to earn an adequate income, the conference is to point out for mountain farming on the basis of concrete practical measures. For this purpose, renowned policy-makers from the EU and the Member States will set out and discuss their ideas for a policy for mountain areas after 2013. These discussions will be deepened in working groups which will address the issue of production, marketing and additional income for agriculture and forestry.
