Vacancies: Alpine Hotels from Decline to Renewal
Tourist resorts in the Alps are trying hard to catch up with the future - but how? Is it better to build a trendy party hotel for snowboarders, plan a wellness temple or rather refurbish the Grand Hotel from the Belle Epoque in style? The Swiss Alpine Museum puts on display and discusses a dozen recent alpine hotel projects, some planned only, others having become reality, classical and unconventional, plain and extravagant ones. Innovative concepts from Adelboden to Vnà breathe new life into tourism in the Swiss mountain world, mostly with considerable investments and contemporary architecture. «Vacancies» allows visitors to look at this great variety and shows today what will be built tomorrow. The scene of the exhibition is an imaginary hotel. In the corridor historical photographs and objects tell visitors about the eventful past of the alpine hotel business, bringing its atmosphere back to life. Rooms 201-207 focus on the present and offer a look into the future: architectural models and pictures come alive thanks to the presentation of building projects, and investors, planners and locals voice their opinions in interviews, films and quotations.
