60 years of CIPRA
The International Commission for the Protection of the Alps, CIPRA, has reason to celebrate. On 5 May this umbrella organisation, containing some one hundred members from all countries in the Alps, will turn 60.

Youth Parliament of the Alpine Convention convened in Herisau
The outcome of the event held from March 29 to April 1 is a 13-page resolution catalogue. It illustrates how important young people feel about being able to shape a viable future for the alpine region. "Transport and Transit" was the theme of this year's meeting.

Dinaric Alps Conference: laying the foundations for the protection of the Dinaric Alps
The countries of the Dinaric Alps met in Brdo near Kranj, Slovenia, on March 8 and 9 for the first ever Dinaric Alps Conference. Concurrently the ministers of the Alpine states convened at the 11th Alpine Conference.

The new publication titled The Alps by the Permanent Secretariat of the Alpine Convention provides a comprehensive overview of the Alps, including a wealth of cartographic material. For over a thousand years the Alpine landscape has been used as a cultural landscape.

Climate change mitigation in construction and renovation is tantamount to providing for the future; it also makes economic sense. Better still, the Konstruktiv architecture award shows how sustainable construction can also become a sight for sore eyes. CIPRA co-initiated the award in order to publicise exemplary solutions. Photo-shooting the Alps
Time for photographers of the Alps to show off their best shots! The Permanent Secretariat of the Alpine Convention is organising a photo competition with the aim of publishing the twelve best photographs in a calendar. There will also be a special prize for each published photograph.

Per Alpes - Discovering the Alps in 20 circular walks
Such is the title of the hiking guide that has just been published by the Permanent Secretariat of the Alpine Convention. It showcases and describes 20 selected trekking routes across the alpine arc, touching on all the alpine states that are part of the Alpine Convention. By presenting the Alps as a tourist destination that goes beyond the national borders of the individual countries this book contributes in its way towards implementing the Alpine Convention's protocol on tourism.

The only link to nature inside the conference centre is a spectacular bouquet of flowers picked, it would seem, from beyond the Alps. Seated at long tables are the Environment Ministers and State Secretaries of all the Alpine states.

Alpine Convention's climate portal now online
The Permanent Secretariat of the Alpine Convention has gone online with its climate portal, in time for International Mountain Day and the climate negotiations in Copenhagen. The climate portal collates and disseminates information on events, activities and developments relating to climate change in the Alps. Climate-related information from throughout the Alpine region can be submitted to the portal for publication.

Alpine Convention acts as a guide for the Dinaric Alps
CIPRA Slovenia has successfully completed its project entitled "Knowledge transfer in the area of sustainable development from the Alpine Convention to the municipality of Mojkovac in Montenegro". The project provides a good starting point for the comprehensive promotion of nature conservation and sustainable development in the Dinaric mountain range.
