SWOMM 2008

11. Dezember 2008

Urban mobility in the mountain regions

The 2008 edition of SWOMM, Scientific Workshop on Mountain Mobility and Transport, promoted by the Italian Ministry of Environment, Land and Sea and organized by EURAC-Research aims at pooling the good practices in sustainable mobility used by local communities and regional and central governments.

Representatives from international, national and local institutions together with operators and experts in the mobility and transport sector will be gathered to discuss the topic of urban mobility in the mountain regions.

SWOMM intends to generate fresh ideas on sustainable mobility through a comparative discussion between solutions that are already in effect or just in an initial phase. Many initiatives in this area have been started, and numerous projects are already underway at a local level.
Sharing relevant experiences could extend the number of initiatives to environments with less developed mobility systems in comparison to the Alpine region, such as the Carpathians. Representatives from the Carpathian region, in fact, will give their contribution to the proceedings of the Workshop.

Considering the strategic importance of local and urban mobility for the mountain regions and its impact on the environment, SWOMM 2008 aims at suggesting both effective and transferable solutions in regulating urban mobility particularly in the Alps and in the Carpathians.
