"Fossil free" project National Park Dolomiti Bellunesi

Progetto "Fossil free" Parco Nazionale Dolomiti Bellunesi

This climate response measure was researched by the project team as part of the cc.alps project in 2009.

:
The National Park of the Dolomiti Bellunesi has become a "Fossil free" area regarding the energetic provisioning. This happened thanks to interventions in the production sector, energy use, management of the cycle of waste, treatment of waste waters and mobility.

The plan’s inspiring idea was a protected area that in addition to its primary functions of naturalistic care, scientific research and environmental education would propose itself as a proper "laboratory of sustainable development" realizing pilot-applications of alternative technologies: - production and use of energy; - management of the waste cycle; - waste water treatment; - mobility.

The "solarization" plan of Dolomiti’s National Park promotes: - modern technologies of energy exploitation produced from wood (wood shavings, pellet, firewood) with combustion and gasification; - vegetable Diesel oil for heat use, micro-cogeneration and alternative feeding of Diesel engines; - photovoltaic and solar thermal energy; - micro-hydroelectric energy, both in the internal area of the park and in its external limited settled regions. Sustainable mobility and accessibility plan in the Park territory, based on seasonal traffic restrictions.

The aim of a "fossil free" park has been reached through: - the solarization of the infrastructures on altitude (using photovoltaic energy, micro-hydraulic, biodiesel micro-cogeneration); - alternative electrification of the Mis’ Valley: photovoltaic and micro-hydroelectric electrification both of the touristic infrastructures and traditional country habitations; - road applications fed by photovoltaic; - sustainable mobility and accessibility plan in the Park territory, based on seasonal traffic restrictions.
