:
Experimental wind energy plant finalized to study micro-turbines in areas like the Trentino region that lack strong and constant winds , but can still successfully exploit wind strength. This project is the only one in Italy.

Wind energy

To identify the most effective kinds of turbines in order to produce energy from wind, in localities without strong and constant winds, like the Trentino region.

The first step to start the plan was the built of anemometric towers necessary to correlate wind measures to the performance of the machines. The wind field has 3 different kinds of new-generation turbines that allow to exploit low-intensity winds. Moreover the field has the equipment to analyze and compare functional and building characteristics of the turbines (only small dimensioned). The plant serves to evaluate the environmental and sound impacts and the logistic-infranstructural requisites of the installation of wind turbines.

In the experimental field of Trento three turbines have been installed; the first is a three-vanes turbine with a nominal power of 20kW, the second is a two-vanes turbine with a power of 11kW and the last one is a micro-turbine of smaller size with a power of 1kW. Size has been chosen to favour the energy integration between domestic and crafts/rural needs on the territory.

Other public bodies

It is an initiative of the University of Trento, the Provincial Agency for Energy, Interbrennero spa with the support of the Province of Trento.
