The plan aims to integrate the production of wood-energy starting from the use of the woody biomass collected in the local woods into the Cavanese Valleys. Key point of the project is the local timber work (sawmill), usually the weakest link in a chain in Italy.

Forest biomass,
renewable energy
The plan proposes to develop a complete and appropriate wood production process. It starts with good forest management, promotes local timber work and the use of production rejects to produce energy from renewable sources. In this way the plan helps reducing pollutant emissions (decreasing the use of fossil fuels) and contributes to support the local employement and the forest management.
The cooperative "Valli Unite del Canavese" was born in the 1990s. It's goal is to create employement in the forest sector and in the activities connected to environmental care. The Canavese Forest Consortium was born in 2002 to rationalize the forest heritage management (planning). In Castellamonte the ASA Consortium has realized two boilers powered by woody biomass of 4,5 thermic MW, and has installed the pipe-net for a district heating system (pipes for 14.000m, the equivalent of 650 families connected and exchangers from 30KW - for single-family users to 1.600KW for the hospital). The center to promote timber work, named "Segheria Valle Sacra" was born in 2006. It aims to increase the value of forest heritage by converting the woody production rejects in energy sources.
During the season of 2006-2007 they have produced 12.729 MWh using 8.600 tons of wood shaving to produce heat for 638 families and 14 public buildings.
Administration (local, regional, national)
Canavese Forest Consortium (includes 3 Mountain Comunities and some municipalities in the Canavese territory); ASA Consortium (manages the district heating central); Samwill Valle Sacra (Converts wood into biomass); Cooperative Valli Unite del Canavese (works on the forest sector).
