Seventy percent of the community of municipalities of the Vercors Massif is covered by forests which can be used as fuel. To organise their production, the municipalites decided to build an intercommunal hangar to stock and to dry wood plates (working since 2006), which allows to guarantee a good quality wood supply.

Different public buildings have been equipped with collective heating systems supplied with wood pellets. This is representing an annual consumption of about 15 000 m3 of wood pellets. The wood is stored firstly outside the hangar until a humidity level of 35% is reached. Then it is stored inside the hangar to reach a humidity level of 25% which is enough to make the wood usable as fuel for heating purposes. The wood pellets are then transported to the heating silos.
