The Centre of Sustainable Development Lavesè has been obtained from a restored building according to eco-compatible constructions techniques. It is self-sufficient regarding energy provision, waste disposal and waste waters. It is used for demonstration purposes and hosts educational initiatives on environmental sustainability.

The Eco-sustainable Centre of Lavesè shall become a positive example of a pilot structure to promote the use of alternative energies. Besides, Lavesé is a favoured destination to experience nature and environment and it represents a social and cultural aggregation centre.
Beside its role as virtuous example the Centre organizes courses and promotes actions to spread knowledge and good practice. The restoration of the building that hosts the Centre has strictly observed ecological standards and has been executed through bio-architectural interventions; the heating system uses a set of solar collectors and a wood thermo-kitchen. A photovoltaic plant covers the energy needs and the waste waters are disposed of with a phyto-purification plant.
The Centre of sustainable development of Lavesè is establishing itself as a landmark to self-sufficiency on energy production and an example in how to convert waste in bio-energy. The Centre works as hostel and offers didactic stays and guided tours, summer camps for kids and teenagers, courses, workshops and retreats for adults. The Centre can be reached by foot on a dirt road in about 30 minutes (if necessary a shuttle service can be requested, but it should be avoided to reach the centre with private cars).
Administration (local, regional, national)
The Municipal Administration of Saint Denis has spent about 350.000 Euro in 2001 to built the structure. The planning has been supervised by Christian Cavorsin and Marco Savoye of the association "Energaia per un’Edilizia sostenibile" (Energaia to a sustainable building). The Centre is also a hostel with buffet service and is managed by the cooperative "La Libellula".
