The status quo of the forests in Tyrol was analyzed, in order to find out the size of the potential for a biomass energy supply.

heat plan

Main objective of the Tyrolean energy heat plan is to raise energy efficiency in all fields and to establish several renewable energy plants. At the same time the overall energy consumption should be reduced; especially the fossil oil use. The plan is to supply over 50 heat plants with 500 KW power output.

Research has been done about how much biomass the Tyrolean forests can supply in a sustainable way. A biomass energy heat plan has been worked out.

The results of the study about the potetial biomass accessibility in tyrolean forests showed that nowadays biomass is underrepresented in the energy supply, although there are enough resources. The percentage of renewable energy supply in Tyrol equals 30% (including traffic).
