In 2003 Les Gets launched a "projet village" in order to react to climate change and its consequences on the local community by building a global action plan integrating the three dimensions of sustainable development. Les Gets bases its local sustainable development strategy on a respectful use and valorization of its surrounding mountains.

Considering the negative effects of climate change on touristic activities and the negative effects of massive tourism on the local community, Les Gets established a global action plan integrating 12 objectives. Within these 12 objectives many of them directly contribute to reduce GGE, especially soft mobility for everybody and sustainable housing. The announced objective is "CO2 = 0" regarding mobility in the resort.
Strong control of real estate business and constructions. The increasing development of new constructions generates lots of GGE and serious water problems. Building licences were stopped for 3 years. Mobility management : Les Gets is an alpine pearl and contributed to the Alpine Space program Mobil'Alp. A mobility central, free shuttles for tourists, a regular and low cost (1€) transvalley bus line (Balad'Aulps) have been set up. Les Gets wants to develop the use of cable cars as urban transport mode. Eco-construction : the high environmental quality standard is integrated in the local community building strategy and has already been adopted for the construction of 28 social accomodations. Valorization of local wood resources through the realization of a wood heating building connected to a local heating network. Important waste recycling program especially for touristic activities and visitors.
More than 20,000 people used the new Balad'Aulps Bus during the 2006-70 winter saison. A "CO2 person" was apppointed by the town council. She is in charge of the evalution of the GGE in the local community and has to inventory and analyse the energetic good practices in order to built a Local Climate Plan. Some skilifts are now functioning with electricity from solar panels (instead of polluant and noisy electricity generating systems Oil used for snow groomer, skidoos and quads is biodegradable. Generalization of "free hands" and reusable skipasses. Non biodegradable plastic skipasses are going to disapear.
