Abstract
The conceptual and technical development of the toolbox was implemented in the frame of a large European project in the technical frame of the Interreg 3B CADSES-programme. Under the lead-partnership of the Government of Carinthia project partners from Austria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Italy and Slovenia based their activities on an inquiry of experts and managers of protected areas in Middle and Eastern Europe. The technical results were executed in close cooperation with European and international institutions. The structure of the toolbox follows the „life-cycle“ of a protected area, leading from a pre-phase to a planning-phase and the implementation-phase. Within these phases the most important fields of activities (FOA) have been identified in a process of discussion with international experts. The FOA`s serve as a basic structure and are documented comprehensively by an outline, a description of the function and a bundle of recommendations.
