Abstract
This publication summarises some important results of a comprehensive research project about mountain areas and mountain policies in Europe, which has been undertaken in 2002-2003 for the European Commission and served also as a base for the Third European Cohesion Report. Project leader was the Scandinavian institute Nordregio. The Austrian institute Bundesanstalt für Bergbauernfragen had the task to deal with information and data from Austria and Germany. The publication of Dax/Hovorka presents the most important results of the project in German language: There are several maps with characteristic features of European mountain areas and some findings on mountain policies in Europe.
