Abstract
The italian project team of RESTRIM completed the following three topics: 1) the definition of the theoretical framework which is particularly suitable for the analysis of Southern Tuscany; 2) the collection of information by means of the questionnaire submitted to the sample for fieldwork analysis. After the analysis of the results, the second phase of the field work analysis has been organized, with reference to 3) the deeper interviews to agents in the study area. According to the research program, a theme has been identified for a comparative analysis between all the study areas involved in RESTRIM. The team has worked at a theoretical level. The characters that identifies the modern rurality in marginal areas have been scrutinised, with reference to “public goods” that represent a constitutive part of social capital. More precisely, the research group has given emphasis on private and public services. Moreover, the team has worked on: 1) the characteristics of services as part of the social capital. 2) the level of optimal supply level of services in rural areas 3) the different forms of governance in relation to public goods. The second planned survey has been carried out. The questionnaire been sent to and collected from the sample. Then results have been analyzed. The second questionnaire has been defined with reference to the questions defined by all the themes – proposed by each research group – and, in particular, with reference to the linkages between services and development. Finally, the team has analyzed the recent development actions. On the basis of the information collected in the previous phases, the team has analyzed all the planning actions that the local authorities have implemented. The team has studied in depth the links between actions and the level of public goods that sustain the development process.
