Abstract
This phD is not very recent. However it has been a major contribution in the understanding of social and political impact of the major ski-resorts created in the French Alps in the 1960’s and 1970’s. It recalls how much disruptive had been the sudden and massive arrival of public engineers and capitalists entrepreneurs in rural and fairly traditional societies, not open yet to modern tourism. But, contrary to much more controversial and Manichean publications, it shows how a new local society progressively emerged mainly thanks to the ability of inhabitants to take advantage of the tourist development, and to the ability of the municipal institutions to appear to be a major partner to corporations.
