Abstract
The volume deals with the growth and development of winter tourism in the italian Alps, in relation with the evolution of the rising techniques, which are then divided in different types. The analysis proceeds with a survey of the main traditional tourist stations, region by region, and of those created ex nihilo after the Second World War. The author concludes his research with an assessment of the costs, even environmental, of winter tourism. The volume includes some maps of the main skiing regions in the Italian Alps.
