- Abstract
- The book analyses the Alpine row starting from an historical excursus: from the Medieval Age, when the Alps were considered as awful places, until today. Problems such as tourism, transports, environmental hazards, depopulation and employment are investigated through an interdisciplinary perspective. The book also contains an anthology of ten study cases and important international documents (The Alpine Convention, Agenda 21). Among the study cases described, one in particular is very interesting for the Q 1: the initiative promoted by the National Park of Belluno Dolomites, located in Veneto, for the recovery and the reactivation of the traditional temporary huts. In the Fifties, this huts were more than 600 and more than 2000 cattle were kept there during summer time. At the beginning of the Ninties, only 2 huts were still functioning. In order to revitalize the local economy in a sustainable way and to stop the process of depopulation, the Park decided to start the project “Model Hut”. The renovated huts, powered by clean and renewable resources, are now centre of organic farming, environmental education, selling points of tipical and local products with the Park quality label. The innovation potential contained in the project described is high and it consists in the combination of tradition and innovation. The project and the methodoloy described can be transferred in other mountain regions and are significant examples of good governance.
