Abstract
The study describes the relation between acessibility and regional economy. The assumption that there's a positive relation between acessibility and economy on the national level has been transferred to the regional level as well. This argument that improved accessibility is encouraging regional competitiveness, is supposed at all levels of administration. The investment in the TEN network ist justfied in terms of this contribution to regional economy and therefore to economic cohesion of the European Union. BUT there's little evidence. In the case of Austian regions there's only weak evidence of a relation between accessibility and GDP and this correlation declines as capital stock of infrastructure increases. Between accessibility and unemployment rate no relation could be found.
