Abstract

The book addresses the multiple connections between economy and ecology and aims for the regional economic effects of the implementation of the Natura 2000 network in Austria. By means of a specific model calculation applied to four model regions in Austria (Waldviertel, Steinfeld, Verwall, Karwendel), the effects are quantified and described. Added values, change in employment, effects on diverse sectors (forestry, agriculture, tourism etc.) are subjects of detailed investigations using different scenarios. The report concludes with a synthesis of the gained results and provides few recommendations on different political levels.
