Abstract
The case study 'Vereinatunnel' is part of the research project 'Spatial impacts of transport infrastructures - learning from the past', conducted by the Federal Office for Spatial Development. It analyses the 1999 railway tunnel between the regions Prättigau and Unterengadin in the Swiss Canton Grissons. Main findings: the tunnel had so far mainly impacts on local tourist industry but not on other economic sectors. Passenger numbers on public transport as well as rail freight transport to the region was increased significantly, however road traffic on the main access routes (passes) remain unchanged.
