- Short description
- Planners, officials and residents were concerned with the enhancement and the design of the Yppen Place in Vienna for more that 15 years. There were a lot of expert reports and ideas but none of them was realised. In 1997 the EU-programme URBAN breathed new life into the project. The Municipial Department started a participative process: 5 residents, 5 shopkeepers of the Yppenmarket, officials of several Municipal Departments, politicians, planners, stakeholders and representatives of local initiatives were involved. At the beginning the following objectives were defined: more free space, an enhancement of the market place and a place for social and cultural activities. A concept and a framework plan were developed collectively. The residents are highly satisfied with the outcome - the ideas that were agreed within the framework plan were realised: The reconstruction of the Yppen Place was finished in 2001.
