Short description
HeuVital stands for a sustainable accentuation concept in the municipality Pfronten in the Allgäu. New value creation chains with hay and the connection of local cycles facilitate an extensive mountainscape and environment oriented tourism. Controlled hay stemming from ecologically and aesthetically valuable mountainous meadows is not only used up as fodder, but is also locally utilised and marketed as high-grade personal-care and consumption products. In the meantime a real “hay-cult” has emerged: Let’s jump into the hay!

No evaluation data available.
Difficulties
- Forthcoming change of generations of “the initiators of the first generation”: Promotion/Information - The inclusion of as many partners as possible from different sectors is harder than expected: Promotion/Information - The alliance of hay-cure has been liquidated due to a lack of honorary participants (31.12.2005): Hay marketing by Pfronten tourism - Sales problems of BTW: Build-up of professional sales channels - Name recognition not high enough: Intensification of Promotion

Comments
Impact on nature and environment
Conservation of extensively managed mountain meadows as habitat for rare plant- and animal species (area in hectares ca. 10), as element of an attractive landscape as well as for the protection against mures and avalanches (short-cut meadows provide a gliding surface in contrast to high-grown meadows) (area in hectares ca 10).
Economic value added
- Formation of a local value creation chain from the raw material and to the processed end-products and its application (selling value of the products and services in the respective value creation chain). - Connection of local economic cycles (agriculture, gastronomy and tourism). - Creation of alternative incomes for agriculture, innkeepers as well as lessors.
Socio-cultural value added
- Sustainment of employments in the mountain area. - Motivation for follow-up regulations of the mountain farmers (perpetuation of the extensive sideline-agriculture in the following generations): number of farms. - Putting into value and conservation of mountain meadows and hay barns as elements of a traditional and diverse cultural landscape.
Innovative content
Upgrading of hay not only by maws, but also by a sustainable concept: - Formation of local value creation chains and connection of local economic cycles - Gaining name and recognition of an entire municipality as mountain hay-region including partners from different branches (hay is not provided by single companies (e.g. hay hotels), but it is a subject of an integrative communal policy).
Good governance
The project activities were coordinated in meeting of the (NGO) initiatives "Heukurverband Pfronten e.V." (until 2005), "Forum" (Sammelbecken Pfrontener Initiativen, corresponds to a local Agenda 21 group), Erzeuger- und Vermarktungsgesellschaft "BTW Kurmittel GmbH", Hotel- und Gaststättenvereinigung (BHG), landwirtschaftliche Direktvermarktungsgesellschaft "PfAD" as well as the municipality Pfronten coordinated with the municipal council, comissions and the public administration.
PR impact
Intensive public relation (including advertisments), mainly by Pfronten tourism. Gaining of recognition by many appearances in different media.
Multiplier effect / networking
The hay related products and services are provided to non-regional partners, too. Membership in the “Arbeitsgemeinschaft Deutscher Königinnen” in order to promote the internal tourism.
Transferability
Integration of representatives of different sectors into a comprehensive project strategy. Connection of nature conservation and tourism leading to mutual benefits (the same is true for the gastronomy and agriculture). Promotion of the sense of solidarity within a commune. Gaining name and recognition of a touristic municipality. HeuVital is an exemplary project positioning the alps as the delicatessen shop of Europe.
