Short description
The Stotzigwald in Gurtnellen protects the national highway A2 and cantonal highways against rock fall, erosion and avalanches. Today, this protection is negatively influenced. It lacks a healthy rejuvenation of the forest and measures against damages caused by chamois' foraging. For a long time, the problem is known. However, different conflicts of interests prevented the problem's adjustment up to now. During two years, the Plattform Stotzigwald provided a helpful basis for analysing the problem and finding adequate measures.

Participants
Moderators/facilitators; cantonal offices, foresters, hunters and farmers
Objectives
Natural risk reduction, enhancement of natural habitats, sustainable forestry and agriculture
Activities
Two year long process with total ten meetings. In the next years the measures fixed in a concept are supposed to implmented.
Results
In order to safeguard forest rejuvenation, the game population is supposed to be reduced. During the winter, the hunters guarantee for the necessary shootings. In agreement with the involved representatives of nature conservation, forestry and agriculture, measures to improve the game's habitat are planned. Information about the forest-game problem is planned in order to sensitise all relevant stakeholders and the public. The implmentation of the measures are accompanied by a project group. Its task is the monitoring of the effectiveness of the introduced measures.
Evaluation
The evaluation of the platform process turned out that the general expectations were mainly fulfilled – especially with regard to the creation of mutual confidence and the establishment of a common comprehension of the problem. On the other hand, the high expenditure of time and the lacking bindingness of the decided measures were criticised.
Difficulties
a) strongly diverging interests of the participants; b) the problem to generate a mutual system understanding
