The project 'ski mountaineering' aims at assuring environmental compatibility of ski touring, snowshoeing and winter hiking in the Bavarian Alps. The impact of tourism is exceptionally high in the Bavarian Alps (outskirts, closeness to central regions and low altitude). Disturbances of animals, damage of plants and the use of individual motorised transport must be as low as possible. The wildlife habitat and the activities of winter sportsmen were registered. Conflicts between sport activities and habitats were pointed out. The DAV recommended several new routes. The project was realised in co-operation with the Municipal Forest Offices, Bavarian communities, the German Federal Armed Forces, the Ski Association, the Hunting Association, the Farmers Association and the Alps Association and the Naturfreunde.
Deutsche Alpenverein (DAV) e.V. (German Alps Association). The DAV is member of the German Sports Association and the 'Naturschutzring'. Since 1984 the DAV is a an accredited nature protection association. The DAV has 715.000 members in Germany.
