* Project updated on 25 April 2007 according to information from the project contact persons * In Switzerland there are a big number of small tourist towns which are badly or not at all connected to public transport. This is an essential disadvantage for inhabitants and tourists. In the four participating regions Binntal (Valais), Gantrisch (Berne), Greina (Grisons) and Moosalp (Valais) demand-oriented public transport offers are built up.

Participants

The Alpentäler-Bus is borne by the Swiss Working group for mountain reagions (Schweizerische Arbeitsgemeinschaft für die Berggebiete SAB), by the Swiss Alpine Club SAC and by the Swiss Transport Club (Verkehrs-Club der Schweiz VCS). The project is financially supported by the Federal Ministeries for Spatial Planning (Bundesamt für Raumentwicklung ARE) and for Economy (Bundesamt für Wirtschaft seco, InnoTour). Further important sponsoring partners are the Swiss company for hiking trails (Schweizer Wanderwege SAW), Transa Backpacking AG, the bus company PostAuto Schweiz, the cablecar company Matterhorn Gotthard Bahn and the nature protection organisation Pro Natura.

Development of public transport in disadvantaged peripheral regions. Organisation and operation of innovative demand-oriented services for the leisure transport in touristy regions. Test and evaluation of different models and methods for a laminar implementation. Promotion of public transport and nature-oriented tourism. Creation more quality of life and recreation. Relief of the environment.
